O’Driscoll injury blow

Six Nations: Brian O'Driscoll will miss Ireland's trip to Twickenham after tearing a hamstring against Wales

Ireland will be without their captain Brian O'Driscoll when they round off the Six Nations at Twickenham on Saturday. He was helped off with a torn hamstring after 71 minutes against Wales, faces a scan today, but is likely to be missing for between six and eight weeks. However, Eddie O'Sullivan said yesterday that he ought to be fit for Ireland's tour of New Zealand and Australia in June. "He got hit when stripping the ball - his stock and trade - and his foot splayed," said the Irish coach, who is now running short of proven centres. Luke Fitzgerald, the 20-year-old Leinster back, played the final nine minutes but O'Sullivan, whose job is far from safe, said: "Whether I experiment against England depends on what the union wants. I've always been told that whatever it takes, go out there to win every game. That's the job. We don't have a load of guys playing regularly in the centre who are hanging around. It's a bit of a conundrum."
