The Wasps fly-half Danny Cipriani is poised to make a surprise return to action next week after making a rapid recovery from serious ankle injury.
Cipriani has been sidelined since suffering a fracture and dislocation of his right ankle during his side's Guinness Premiership semi-final victory over Bath in May. The 20-year-old England international had initially been expected to remain in rehabilitation until November, but after responding well to treatment and coming through his first full contact training session unscathed, Cipriani is now in the running to make his comeback ahead of schedule against Bath on October 1.
"It's going to be emotional," Cipriani told Sky Sports News. "I will have to calm myself as I'll be very excited to play again. It will be good to be in front of the home crowd and hear my name called out at the start of the match, so it kicks in and that you know you are about to play in a Premiership match and those four months are over now."
The return of Cipriani, who is considered one of the most talented players in the country will come as a welcome boost for the Guinness Premiership champions, who have lost their first three league games this season.
