Manchester United have said Ben Foster is not for sale, having fielded a discreet inquiry from Tottenham Hotspur about the England goalkeeper.

Harry Redknapp says he has not made a bid for Foster but the Tottenham manager is known to be in the market for cover in that position.

Carlo Cudicini, signed by Redknapp from Chelsea last January, is a long-term absentee with the career-threatening wrist and pelvis injuries that he suffered in a motorcycle accident in November.

Redknapp is also monitoring the progress of a clutch of promising goalkeepers: Scott Loach of Watford, Coventry City's Keiren Westwood and Joe Lewis of Peterborough United.
