James Hook, who is being courted by Perpignan, will decide on his future at the end of Wales's international programme next month.

The Perpignan president, Paul Goze, said last month that talks with the 25-year-old Ospreys centre were at an advanced stage and it is believed a three-year contract worth more than €1m (£870,000) has been offered.

Hook, who started his first match of the season for Ospreys at Toulon on Saturday after having shoulder surgery in the summer, said today that the speculation about his future was not a distraction.

"It does not bother me‚" Hook, a Lion in South Africa last year, said. "My main concern has been to get back on to the pitch and prove my readiness for the autumn internationals.

"There is always speculation when any player is coming out of contract and I am not taking any notice of it. The talks with Perpignan are just that and I am not under any pressure because I do not have to sign for anyone until February. I will make a decision when I am ready and I anticipate it being in the next month or so."

Hook lost the No10 jersey at Ospreys to Dan Biggar last season. He has been used as an inside-centre by the region while Wales deployed him at full-back and outside-centre in their 2009-10 campaign. Perpignan want him as a fly-half, but he said that the position he played in was not a factor in where he will be earning his living from next summer.

"I enjoy playing at 12 with the Ospreys," he said. "I get on really well with the players and it is a great club. It is just that the last time my contract was up, I re-signed for the Ospreys without really thinking about it. Now I am considering my options and the position a team would want me to play in is not an issue."
