Andy Robinson will tell his bosses at Murrayfield on Thursday whether he wants to carry on as Scotland's head coach.

The Englishman from Somerset, who has been in charge of Scotland for three seasons, will meet the SRU's chief executive, Mark Dodson, and say whether he thinks he can take the team forward. If he does, Dodson will probably take a few weeks before announcing whether he still has confidence in the 47-year-old.

Robinson has managed two wins and a draw in 15 Six Nations matches. There have been wins over Australia and South Africa in Edinburgh and Argentina were beaten twice at home, but under Robinson Scotland failed to make the quarter-finals of the World Cup for the first time last autumn and this month took the Six Nations wooden spoon.

It was after defeat by Italy at the Stadio Olimpico that Robinson said he wanted a couple of weeks to consider his position. Previously this season, when linked with a possible return to a coaching job at Bath, where he still lives, Robinson was adamant that he would not walk away. That situation seemed to be confirmed when he recently reshuffled his coaching staff, bringing the Australians Scott Johnson and Matt Taylor on board this summer, starting with the tour of Australia, Fiji and Samoa.

Robinson still has the best part of four years to run on his contract, which would make sacking an expensive option and Dodson has previously been supportive.
