Luke Shaw would be happy to play for England Under-21s in next year’s European Championship after the Manchester United left-back was selected for the squad that faces Croatia in next week’s playoff for the tournament.
Shaw suffered a knee problem in Sunday’s 2-1 win over Everton at Old Trafford but is fit enough to join up with Gareth Southgate’s team. Yet having been selected for Roy Hodgson’s senior squad for the World Cup in the summer, the 19-year-old would have no issue representing the junior team in the next year’s finals in the Czech Republic.
“Yes, of course, I always want to help out my country and I know there are a few other lads who can also drop down as well that summer,” he said. “Who knows yet? Obviously, I’ve had a little discussion about it with Gareth Southgate but nothing too big. I’m away with them for the next couple of weeks and we can get to talk about it properly then [let’s see].
“I’ve been unlucky with the Under-21s as I’ve had a lot of injuries but I still feel I can go and help out. I’m really looking forward to it.”
