A petition to wind up Hereford United has been adjourned until Friday, when the club’s owners must prove they have £1m available for creditors. The Hereford Times reported that at the court hearing the registrar Stephen Baister told the owners they must have the money in place or Friday could prove to be “the very last moment” for the 90-year-old club.

The winding-up petition, now led by Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs for unpaid tax, has been constantly adjourned since it was first issued in April for money owed to the former manager, Martin Foyle.

The club, relegated to the Southern League from the Conference Premier in the summer after failing to meet the requirements for a place in Conference South, were recently taken over by Andy Lonsdale, a businessman in the construction and waste disposal industries.
