David de Gea’s agent has refused to rule out the goalkeeper leaving Manchester United for Real Madrid this summer.

De Gea’s contract expires at the end of next season but United want to keep him and Louis van Gaal has insisted he is confident the Spain international will sign an extension.

De Gea’s agent said, perhaps unsurprisingly with contract talks on the horizon, that the player’s future was not certain. Asked whether he could see De Gea joining Madrid, Jorge Mendes told Marca: “David is amazing, he’s brilliant. He’s a Man United player and has a contract there. You have to respect that but things change every five minutes.”

Van Gaal signed the former Barcelona goalkeeper Víctor Valdés this month on a deal until the end of next season but regards him as back-up to De Gea and not as a replacement.
