90 min+3: More pressure from the Wanderers but Sydney are just about equal to it. Surely they’ve done enough now?

90 min+1: Another fine stop from Janetovic! Here’s that siege I was talking about.

90 min: Oooooo! A deep cross and Janetovic is in the right place at the right time again to save a close-range header. Was that the last chance for Wanderers?

89 min: La Rocca hits one from distance but it’s comfortable for the keeper. Still no sign of a siege.

88 mins: Taxi for Ibini! The Sydney man fires high and wide from just outside the box.

86 min: Still not much urgency from the Wanderers. They’re sticking with the softly, softly approach but time is running out and Sydney are on the ropes with ten men.

85 min: Sydney, not surprisingly, have everyone behind the ball - but Castelen still manages to break through. He fires low and hard but Janjetovic is equal to it. Good save.

81 min: Over 19,000 in attendance tonight, but it’s the Cove in the corner making all the noise.

80 min: That’s 19 goals in five games for Sydney FC. If they can just sort out their defensive issues they’ll be serious contenders.

78 min: Sydney seem quite happy for the Wanderers to pass it around in defence, it’s when they’re pressing forward that they’ve struggled. Odd tactics from Popovic’s men.

76 min: Golec off for Galloway. The Wanderers need to go up a gear again. Bafflingly, they seemed to be deliberately slowing things down before the goal, just when they had all the momentum.

70 min: Slightly better from the men in sky blue but just as they seem to be applying some pressure, the Wanderers win it back and race up the other end. Twenty minutes with no goals makes this officially a “lull”.

68 min: Sure enough here he comes. Antonis on for Naumoff.

67min: Despite those stoppages, it’s still the Wanderers on top. Antonis starts to warm-up on the sidelines.

66 min: Grant on for Ryall.

65 min: A needless free-kick from Takahagi gives Sydney some breathing space. The Wanderers were just starting to turn the screw.

64 min: Janko off for Smeltz. Will he claim a hat-trick? Some debate over who should get the credit for Sydney’s first.

63 min: All too easy for the Wanderers at the minute. It would be interesting to see the possession stats for the last 10 minutes. Sydney have hardly touched it.

61 min: Plenty of talk about whether smoke from a flare obstructed Janjetovic’s view for the equaliser. Didn’t look too bad to me.

57 min: And sure enough he comes off seconds later. Hopefully it’s nothing serious, the way he’s grinning suggests not.

56 min: Naumoff heads the ball straight at Covic. Not sure what’s happening to Bulut, but the two-goal hero looks spent. He’s hobbling around.

54 min: Graham Arnold must be tearing what’s left of his hair out. How have Sydney let this one slip out of their hands?

49 min: Actually, it is a little less “gung-ho” this half. Bit more caution on show. The Wanderers passing it around well... although they did that when it was 0-0 in the first-half.

47 min: Two minutes in and no goals. It’s positively sedate.

45 min: Last corner of the half for Sydney FC. It sails into the box and an unmarked Jurman heads it wide from eight yards. Poor defending, poor finishing.

43 min: Well no one saw that coming. This game looked dead and buried about 20 minutes ago.

41 min: The resulting free-kick is swung into the box but it’s an easy one for Covic.

40 min: Tanaka booked somewhat harshly for jostling Naumoff.

38 min: Four goals but it’s hardly been a derby classic. Bit scrappy from both teams but the Sky Blues have been clinical where it counts.

35 min: Well if nothing else that goal has livened the crowd up. Much more noise from the Red and Black Bloc - although it’s possible they were just putting the finishing touches to another giant cartoon beforehand.

29 min: For a second there I thought I saw some flames coming out of Popovic’s head -but it was just a Hungry Jack’s advert going across the top of the screen.

27min: OOOOoooo! Should have been four. Brosque puts Naumoff clean through but a poor first touch takes him too far left and he can’t get his shot on target. The Wanderers defence have gone, erm, wandering.

19 min: Somewhat optimistic appeals for a handball/penalty from the Wanderers players and fans. Despite plenty of possession, it’s the Sky Blues who look the most threatening. Every time they go forward it feels like something’s going to happen.

13 min: Sydney will be pleased they’ve quietened the crowd although the Wanderers have responded well. Another free-kick from 30 yards goes over Janjetovic’s bar.

Smurfs? Hockey masks? Am I the only one puzzled by this tifo business?

6 min: Wanderers having the better of the early exchanges so far without really creating anything. At the other end, Covic fluffs a harmless cross into the box but Ibini is bundled off the ball before he can get into a shooting position. Slightly worrying for the Wanderers keeper.

3 min: Another set-piece for Wanderers. This time Takahagi tries to float one into the box... but he slips and it bobbles harmlessly out for a goal-kick.

1 min: Janjetovic punches away from an early corner. Not very convincing but Rukaytsya fluffs his second chance.

Highlights from the last game back in November. It ended honours even, so I can’t be accused of bias...

It may be a relatively recent rivalry but the Sydney derby has already become one of the A-League’s most intense fixtures.

Expect more passion from today’s encounter as we approach the business end of the competition.

The Western Sydney Wanderers’ woeful run of domestic form can’t possibly continue for another week, can it? Surely the sold-out derby in Parramatta is the moment Tony Popovic’s charges finally shake off the shackles and start clawing their way back toward the rest of the pack. They will be buoyed by their 3-1 win over Kashima Antlers in the Asian Champions League on Wednesday evening and, though they only return to the country 30 hours before their clash with Sydney FC, momentum should be on their side. Added to that, all but one of the Wanderers’ competition points have come at home this season. But if they are to make real strides up the table, it will have to come from a lift from their recent signings. Yojiro Takahagi in particular needs to step up if the Wanderers have any chance. When you compare the impact he – or Vitor Saba, for that matter - has had to that of Shinji Ono, a fair amount of doubt remains. Having had a golden run since the club was founded, there was always going to be a time when the Wanderers didn’t have everything go their way. Now is that time. How long it lasts will probably define the culture of the club for many years to come.
