Robin van Persie will find out the results of a scan on Monday on his damaged right ankle. Manchester United’s leading scorer left the Liberty Stadium on crutches following his team’s 2-1 defeat to Swansea City and wearing a protective boot. He could not be substituted because United had already used their three replacements by the time he was hurt and Louis van Gaal claimed his team finished the match effectively with 10 men.
“Robin van Persie couldn’t run,” he said. The injury added to United’s disappointment at losing third place in the Premier League with what was only their second defeat in the past 20 matches. Van Persie had a poor game, but he remains their leading scorer with 10 goals in 24 league appearances. He is not expected to be fit in time for next Saturday’s match, at home to Sunderland.
