PSV Eindhoven v Manchester United: match preview

Manchester United return to the Champions League after a season away with a tricky opening trip to PSV Eindhoven

On the last occasion Manchester United played a Champions League match the final scraps of any David Moyes success were swept away by a rampant Bayern Munich in 17 harrowing minutes. United are back but a lot has changed in the intervening 18 months and this competition will provide a measure for progress under Louis van Gaal. In a group which lacks an obvious punchbag, United face three potentially treacherous trips abroad. A positive start against PSV, who arrive on the back of a 6-0 thrashing of lowly Eredivisie side Cambuur on Saturday, would go a long way to settling nerves on their return to Europe’s elite.
