A snooker player blew his chance of making a 147 break, and to compound his misery he then discovered he had also missed out on a £44,000 bonus.
Thailand’s Thepchaiya Un-Nooh needed to pot only the final black in the sixth frame of his UK Championship third-round match against Neil Robertson in York on Tuesday to achieve a 147. He missed and then had salt rubbed in the wound when he was told there was a financial prize for achieving the maximum score.
“£44,000? I wish you’d told me before the black,” said Un-Nooh, the world No36. “I am so disappointed. I have never done a 147 in a big tournament like this before. There was too much pressure.”
Robertson, the world No3, went onto win the match 6-2. “Poor Thepchaiya. That prize would have meant a lot to him,” he said. “But I am delighted to win. I was 3-1 up and should have been 3-1 down. I am feeling really good.”
