I’ll leave you with Jamie Jackson’s report from Old Trafford. Thanks for emailing and reading. Bye!
Paul Pogba, the man of the match, speaks! “We needed a win and we had a great performance. We are coming back. There is a long way to go but to finish the year like that is beautiful. We are Manchester United and we need to keep up with the top of the league. The team needs to enjoy playing football. It is different. We still won some games with the old manager. It is just a different style of playing. We are more offensive, I would say. That’s how we want to play. The manager wants to attack. I always want to do more. I try to not do much and play for the team. We are flying and still want to improve.”

With the shackles off, Manchester United are playing some fantastic football. Strange, that. Two goals from the excellent Paul Pogba and further strikes from Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford are enough for them to secure their third consecutive win under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. They’ve scored 12 goals in their first three games under their new manager, who’s energised the place since replacing Jose Mourinho. Bournemouth, who remain 13th, were thoroughly outplayed. United, who travel to Newcastle on New Year’s Day, go eight points behind fourth-placed Chelsea and three behind fifth-placed Arsenal.
Full-time: Manchester United 4-1 Bournemouth
The final Premier League game of 2018 is over!
90 min+3: The United fans are enjoying a good old sing-song. Might as well give Solskjaer a job for life now.
90 min: There will be four added minutes.
89 min: Lukaku bursts down the left but the flag goes up for offside this time.
86 min: Andrew Surman, who’s had a quiet game, bends a shot wide from 20 yards.
85 min: Bournemouth are playing like a beaten side. There’s no sign of them taking advantage of their man advantage.
82 min: Phil Jones replaces Anthony Martial. There’s hope yet for Bournemouth!
Red card for Eric Bailly!
79 min: Eric Bailly, who could have conceded a penalty 10 minutes ago, flies into a ludicrous challenge with Ryan Fraser on the halfway line. Lee Mason immediately reaches for his red card and United will play the closing stages with 10 men. That was brainless from Bailly.
Updated
76 min: Andreas Pereira replaces Ander Herrera.
75 min: Pogba’s denied his first hat-trick for United by Begovic, who shows excellent reflexes to save the midfielder’s effort from the edge of the area. What a game Pogba’s had.
74 min: Old Trafford’s rocking, though don’t tell them that Lukaku was just offside.
Romelu Lukaku has only been on the pitch for a few minutes and he’s scored already. The excellent Virus Paul Pogba lifts a clever pass over the top of the Bournemouth defence and, despite a slight hint of offside, Lukaku hooks a clever finish past the helpless and exposed Asmir Begovic. The United fans are loving this.
GOAL! Manchester United 4-1 Bournemouth (Lukaku, 72 min)
What an impact from the substitute!
Updated
70 min: Romelu Lukaku replaces Marcus Rashford, who receives a fine ovation after a fabulous display.
69 min: Cook chunters down the right and clips a cross into the middle. King runs on to the ball but Bailly reacts in time to turn the striker’s goalbound shot wide. From the corner, Bailly somehow gets away with a high boot on Daniels, who stays down for a while. That looks a penalty, but Lee Mason isn’ interested.
Updated
68 min: Mousset threatens to break through on goal but Matic exerts enough pressure on the Bournemouth striker to quell the danger.
66 min: Pogba slips a pass through to Rashford, who sees his shot blocked by Begovic. Bournemouth respond by making a double change, Lys Mousset replacing David Brooks and Ryan Fraser replacing Callum Wilson.
62 min: It still feels like United could do with Scott McTominay out there.
59 min: The game is being played in Bournemouth’s half. Eddie Howe’s side don’t look capable of pulling off an astonishing comeback.
56 min: United look likelier to score a fourth than to concede a second. They’re keeping Bournemouth at arm’s length.
54 min: Rashford’s cross from the right sails over the bar. Weirdly his manager doesn’t respond by standing in his technical area with his arms outstretched and a disgusted expression on his face.
51 min: Herrera receives a booking for a cynical foul on Stanislas.
50 min: Bournemouth cope with the corner. Pogba wins another on the right, though. Ake heads away. “I guess Jose will blame mutinous players for his results at Man Utd,” says Mike in Chicago. “The better Utd play the more damning it is to Mourinho and the harder it will be to get a BIG team to hire him.”
49 min: From the left, Martial slides a pass inside to Herrera, who skips round Ake, who turns the Spaniard’s shot over for a corner.
47 min: Shaw heads a long throw from Bournemouth away. Stanislas collects on the edge of the United area but his shot’s blocked.
46 min: Bournemouth, who defended abysmally in the first half, get us underway again. They’re not completely out of this, mind you. Scoring again isn’t beyond them. But it’s difficult to see them keeping United out for another 45 minutes.
Half-time: Manchester United 3-1 Bournemouth
A very entertaining first half draws to a close with Manchester United firmly on top. They’ve been excellent going forward, taking control thanks to a brace from Paul Pogba and a volley from Marcus Rashford. But Jose Mourinho probably won’t have been impressed with them conceding on the stroke of half-time! Unacceptable!
Updated
When United struggle to clear a Bournemouth corner, David Brooks picks up possession on the left of the area. The midfielder spins and turns, then he stands a cross up for Ake to head past De Gea from close range. Bournemouth have one back.

Or is it?

Nemanja Matic looks up and lifts a pass over the top to Martial, who beats the offside trap on the right. He’s forced wide but he dribbles into the area before scooping a fine cross towards the far post with the outside of his right foot. Rashford, who made the first goal for Pogba, arrives and flicks a volley past Begovic from close range. This is done.
GOAL! Manchester United 3-0 Bournemouth (Rashford, 45 min)
It is a rout.
Updated
43 min: United are so comfortable now. This could turn into a rout.
40 min: A lull.
37 min: United clear a threatening delivery from Brooks. Bournemouth look like they have a goal in them. They keep attacking and a long throw causes a problem for United, King turning and shooting from the left. De Gea beats the striker’s shot away at his near post.
36 min: Young’s booked for an awful, over-the-top challenge on King by the left byline. A slip for Young might have made it look worse but it was needless all the same. Brooks lifts the free-kick into the middle, Cook attacks it and wins a corner.
United surge forward, Young finding space from right-back. He pulls the back to Herrera, who clips an instant cross into the middle. Begovic comes flying out, ready to punch clear, but Pogba fancies this one more than the Bournemouth goalkeeper and there’s only one result when he gets his head to the ball. The midfielder’s header flies into the empty net and that means we get to see his dance for the second time this afternoon.
GOAL! Manchester United 2-0 Bournemouth (Pogba, 33 min)
The Virus strikes again.
Updated
32 min: Eddie Howe’s scribbling into his notepad. Bournemouth haven’t been too bad in the past 10 or 15 minutes. They look capable of causing a few problems.
29 min: Martial dinks a ball towards the onrushing Pogba, but Begovic is able to claim the loose ball.
27 min: Pogba shoots straight at Begovic from 25 yards.
26 min: Brooks swings the corner in from the right and Ake rises highest in the middle. The defender’s header bounces through the bodies and hits the unwitting De Gea before being headed away by Herrera. An escape for United.
25 min: Bournemouth break down the right, Wilson finding King, whose dangerous cross has to be put behind by the diligent Herrera. Stanislas probably would have equalised without that intervention.
23 min: Stanislas strides through the middle and advances on goal, only to drag a poor shot wide from 25 yards.
21 min: Bournemouth have a wander down the right. Jordon Ibe flashes a low ball across the face of goal. It’s begging for a touch but none of his team-mates are alert enough.
17 min: I doubt that Solskjaer is the man to take United forward in the long term. Yet they are playing like a weight has been lifted at the moment and that only makes it even more bewildering that so many people were willing to give Mourinho a free pass for what’s gone on this season.
16 min: Who ever could have imagined that Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford could hurt defences in this way? United are buzzing at the moment. Pogba turns in midfield and almost releases Rashford this time, but the pass is just too heavy.
15 min: Matic lofts a ball towards Pogba, who nods it down to Rashford for a volley that hits Cook and loops wide. Begovic was totally wrongfooted. He’s relieved to see the ball head out for a corner.
Updated
11 min: United counter from a botched Bournemouth corner and Begovic has to be brave to claw a cross from Lingard away from Pogba, who apparently does know how to play football. Weird.
9 min: Bournemouth have barely got going at all. They look shellshocked. This could be a long afternoon for the visitors.
7 min: Funny what happens when your manager isn’t hammering you all the time. United are playing with freedom here and they sense a chance to go for the jugular. Martial almost bursts through on goal but Begovic reads the danger and races out of his area to clear.
Marcus Rashford, starting in a central role again, chases after a long ball down the right. Nathan Ake tracks him and looks to have the situation under control, with Rashford pinned to the right touchline. Down by the corner flag, though, Rashford spins and beats Ake with a brilliant piece of footwork. Then he does the same to Diego Rico, utterly bewitching the Spaniard. Bournemouth are in trouble and Rashford has the composure to aim a low cross to Pogba, who slides to turn the ball home from close range! That’s the Frenchman’s third in two games and he owes this one to Rashford’s excellence.
GOAL! Manchester United 1-0 Bournemouth (Pogba, 5 min)
This is a brilliant goal.
Updated
2 min: An early free-kick to Manchester United. Ashley Young lifts it into the Bournemouth area, looking for Matic, but the ball drifts out for a goal-kick. Send for Fellaini!
Peep! Manchester United, attacking the Stretford End in the first half, get the fourth and final game of the day underway. They’re in red shirts and black shorts, Bournemouth are in white shirts and blue shorts, and the home fans are singing about Ole Gunnar Solskjaer already.
Here come the teams! We’ll have football soon.
Eddie Howe speaks! “There’s an element where my hands are tied with some of the selections. I still believe the team I’m putting out is a very good team and we have a lot of quality.”
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer speaks! “We’ve just got to carry on. We can’t change too much in a short space of time. At home we should create chances against any team. We want to make it a high tempo game. We have a bigger squad than many teams. Training has been really sharp. I would have loved to have joined in but there is no chance.”
Manchester City have closed the gap on Liverpool to seven points after beating Southampton 3-1. Nick Ames was following the action from St Mary’s here. Meanwhile Burnley have moved up to 18th after beating West Ham 2-0.

Preamble
Hello. With Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sitting in the dugout instead of that moody Portuguese teenager, everything’s awesome again at Old Trafford. Cardiff City and Huddersfield Town have been vanquished, Paul Pogba’s remembered that he’s a world champion and Manchester United are starting to remember that football is supposed to be played with a smile. After the gloom of the Jose Mourinho era, it’s good to see United’s players expressing themselves on the pitch at last.
That said, they haven’t been tested too much under Solskjaer yet. With all the talent available to the Norwegian, we shouldn’t read too much into wins over a couple of struggling sides. Sterner examinations lie in store and United will need to hit a high level to deal with Bournemouth this afternoon. Eddie Howe’s side have been out of sorts recently and were beaten 5-0 by Tottenham on Boxing Day but they have ways of hurting their opponents. United, who start the day 11 points off fourth-placed Chelsea and six points below fifth-placed Arsenal, needed a last-minute winner to win the reverse fixture in November and it could be another tight affair if Bournemouth are at their best.
Kick-off: 4.30pm GMT.
