Denmark (3-4-1-2)

Kasper Schmeichel (GK) Beaten at close range by Kane when England took the lead. Fine save from Watkins. 6

Joachim Andersen (RCB) The Crystal Palace defender was smooth. Then again there was not much threat on his side. 7

Jannik Vestergaard (CB) Booked for a trip on Saka. Fought to contain Kane. Smart distribution helped his team. 7

Andreas Christensen (LCB) An assured presence at the back. Slipped the ball into midfield. Outnumbered when England scored. 7

Joakim Mæhle (RWB) Had run of the right flank during first half. England had nothing on the left. 7

Pierre-Emile Højbjerg (CM) Allowed to take grip on midfield. Stepped forward and changed the game with his power. 7

Morten Hjulmand (CM) Walloped the ball in from 25 yards for 1-1. Intelligent passing gave Denmark a foothold. 7 MOTM

Victor Kristiansen (CM) Caught napping by Walker when England scored. Nervy when Saka ran at him. But improved. 5

Christian Eriksen (AM) Skipped into some menacing positions. England struggled to pin the playmaker down. Still got it. 6

Jonas Wind (CF) Worked hard and occupied England’s centre-backs. An old-fashioned front two was a throwback from Denmark. 6

Rasmus Højlund (CF) Caused problems with his movement. Strong and quick, but he lacked incisiveness before going off. 6

Substitutes: Yussuf Poulsen (for Højlund, 67) 6; Alexander Bah (for Kristiansen, 57) 6; Mikel Damsgaard (for Wind, 57) 6; Andreas Skov Olsen (for Eriksen, 82) 6; Christian Nørgaard (for Hjulmand, 82) 6

England (4-3-3)

Jordan Pickford (GK): Could not be faulted for Denmark’s equaliser. Saved a few shots. One nervy punch. 6

Kyle Walker (RB): Shook off a knock and created England’s goal. More ambition, overlapping a lot, but made errors. 6

John Stones (CB): It was hard to pick holes in his performance. Will possibly be annoyed with his passing. 7

Marc Guéhi (CB): Up and down. Some accomplished moments. Huge recovery tackle late on – after he lost the ball. 6

Kieran Trippier (LB): His defending remains as aggressive as ever. Problem is his inability to offer natural width. 5

Trent Alexander-Arnold (CM): Vanity project is not working. No control, no awareness, bypassed too easily. Unsurprisingly substituted early. 4

Declan Rice (CM) Overwhelmed, with too many holes to plug in his part of the pitch. Poor in possession. 4

Jude Bellingham (CM) Sloppy. Lost the ball too much, wanted too much time, lacked urgency. A wake-up call. 4

Bukayo Saka (RW) Forced the ball on for the opener. But Denmark closed down the passing avenues to him. 6

Harry Kane (CF) Faded after opening the scoring. Furious with himself after giving away the ball for Denmark’s equaliser. 5

Phil Foden (LW) One super run. Bright in the middle, less effective on flank, Hit the post from 25 yards. 6

Substitutes: Conor Gallagher (for Alexander-Arnold, 54) England were more secure after he replaced Alexander-Arnold but his passing disappointed. 5; Eberechi Eze (for Saka, 69) Struggled to impose himself after coming on. 5; Ollie Watkins (for Kane, 70) Almost scored immediately after replacing Kane. Offered energy. 6; Jarrod Bowen (for Foden, 69) Set-pieces were not good enough. Beat the first man. 5
