And with that, clockwatch is finally complete! Phew. That’s it from me.

Ramsdale saves from Diakité and Newcastle win!

A kick too far for Bournemouth, Ramsdale the hero.

Updated

Petrovic nowhere near it.

Ramsdale gets a big hand to it but can’t keep it out.

Good penalty from Barnes, third time he’s had the ball in the net today.

Penalties: Truffert fires home! Newcastle 5-5 Bournemouth

Ramsdale doesn’t move.

Penalties: Miley scores! Newcastle 5-4 Bournemouth

Easy as you like from Miley.

Pressure on and Hill’s effort goes in off the post.

Penalties: Hall scores! Newcastle 4-3 Bournemouth

Top corner and Petrovic can’t keep it out.

Penalties: Senesi scores! Newcastle 3-3 Bournemouth

Very calm penalty after a nervous run-up. Senesi sends Ramsdale the wrong way.

Penalties: Joelinton! Newcastle 3-2 Bournemouth

Petrovic goes the wrong way and the pendulum swings back to Newcastle.

Penalties: Ramsdale saves from Jiminez! Newcastle 2-2 Bournemouth

We’re back level as Ramsdale makes a comfortable save.

Updated

Penalties: Tonali scores! Newcastle 2-2 Bournemouth

Best kick yet.

Penalties: Cook scores! Newcastle 1-2 Bournemouth

Advantage Bournemouth. Ramsdale nearly keeps it out, but it just beats him.

Updated

Penalties: Petrovic saves from Guimarães! Newcastle 1-1 Bournemouth

The Newcastle captain didn’t look confident it’s not a good kick.

Updated

Penalties: Ramsdale saves! Newcastle 1-1 Bournemouth

Evanilson went to the keeper’s left and Ramsdale guess correct. Still all square.

Penalties: Woltemade hits the bar! Newcastle 1-1 Bournemouth

Petrovic was beaten but Woltemade’s kick is down the middle and cannons back off the bar.

Updated

Penalties: Tavernier scores! Newcastle 1-1 Bournemouth

Ramsdale goes the right way but the kick is firm and into the corner.

Updated

Penalties: Gordon scores! Newcastle 1-0 Bournemouth

Gordon puts away his second spot kick of the day, sending Petrovic the wrong way.

Full-time: Newcastle 3-3 Bournemouth

Gordon misses an open goal to win it with the last kick. Absolutely absurd stuff. We have penalties.

Goal! Newcastle 3-3 Bournemouth (Tavernier 120)

Drama! Tavernier wants that more and gets between two Newcastle defenders and the keeper to stab home. Bournemouth were dead and buried, how have they done that?

Updated

Goal! Newcastle 3-2 Bournemouth (Barnes 118)

Gordon has all the space in the world to pick out a cross and finds Barnes at the back post to nod in. Bournemouth will be kicking themselves.

Updated

Newcastle 2-2 Bournemouth

Tonali goes close with a free-kick that is just too high. Petrovic was at full stretch.

Newcastle 2-2 Bournemouth

Lengthy stop for Adam Smith to get some treatment for cramp. There’s about five minutes left before penalties.

Manchester City put out a strong side to take on Exeter City and whalloped them. Jamie Jackson was there to see Antoine Semenyo, among others, get on the scoresheet:

Newcastle 2-2 Bournemouth

Scott is withdrawn. He looked knackered. On comes Remy Rees-Dottin.

Newcastle 2-2 Bournemouth

Scott should score here. Jiminez leads the break and finds Scott with only Ramsdale to beat but the midfielder’s shot is straight at the keeper. The visitors should be out of sight.

Newcastle 2-2 Bournemouth

Another chance! Scott this time, he stabs at a ball from Jiminez after another sloppy giveaway by Newcastle. Both teams are looking leggy.

Newcastle 2-2 Bournemouth

This time it’s Evanilson! Tavernier gets to the byline and pulls it back for the Brazilian but he’s slightly wrongfooted and can’t get a good connnection.

Peeeeep!

Tonali kicks off the last 15 minutes of action.

Half-time in extra time: Newcastle 2-2 Bournemouth

Wonderful pass from Scott plays in Jimenez just before the half-time break. The Bournemouth man never looked convincing as he advanced on goal and Ramsdale shuts him down. That was a big chance. Bournemouth looking very tired but still creating chances.

Updated

Newcastle 2-2 Bournemouth

Woltemade slips in Barnes again, the winger looks offside but the pass just gets away from him. We’ll have a couple of minutes more for injuries after Thiaw got some treatment.

Newcastle 2-2 Bournemouth

A couple of minutes left in the first half of extra time. Not much to report.

Unsurprisingly Crystal Palace head coach Oliver Glasner has some scathing words for his team’s performance against Macclesfield. Here’s what he said after the FA Cup holders fell to the biggest shock in the competition’s history:

I have no words for this performance. It’s not just losing, it’s creating almost no chances. It was really hard to watch, there was no physical presence, no kind of quality in our attack. This is what makes it so disappointing.

There is every emotion beside happiness. With all the respect [to Macclesfield] in a game like this you don’t need a tactic, you don’t need a manager who tells you what to do. You have to do the right things. We have to score five or six against a non-league team, but we didn’t show any kind of quality.

More reaction from the Silkmen’s stunning 2-1 in with Dominic Booth here:

Newcastle 2-2 Bournemouth

Hall darts down the left and hangs up a cross to the back post, Sven Botman gets on the end of it but can’t keep his header down.

Missed the early FA Cup action?

Here’s John Brewin’s roundup of the 12.15pm kick-offs:

Newcastle 2-2 Bournemouth

Gordon gives the ball away in an awful area and Bournemouth work it into the Newcastle box for Evanilson, he shoots and Botman has to clear off the line.

Updated

Peeeeeeep!

Bournemouth kick-off extra time.

Full-time: Newcastle United 2-2 Bournemouth

We’re going to extra time at St James’ Park.

Full-time scores: FA Cup third round

Boreham Wood 0-5 Burton
Burnley 5-1 Millwall
Doncaster 2-3 Southampton
Fulham 3-1 Middlesbrough
Ipswich 2-1 Blackpool
Manchester City 10-1 Exeter
Sheffield Wednesday 0-2 Brentford

Full-time: Manchester City 10-1 Exeter

With everything else going on I missed Exeter’s consolation and City’s tenth. Pep should apologise.

Updated

Goal! Newcastle 2-2 Bournemouth (Gordon 90+5, pen)

Sandro Tonali is brought down by Djorde Petrovic and up steps Anthony Gordon to convert. Extra-time looking likely here.

Updated

Goal! Fulham 3-1 Middlesbrough (Kevin 90+3)

The Premier League side are through.

Goal! Burnley 5-0 Millwall (Banel 89)

Jaydon Banel turns home a fifth.

Goal! Stoke 1-0 Coventry (Cisse 88)

That deserves to be the winner! Hell of a strike from Lamine Cisse to break the deadlock as he controls a bouncing ball some 35 yards out and loops a volley over and past Wilson in the Coventry goal.

Updated

Goal! Manchester City 9-0 Exeter (McAidoo 86)

City have now surpassed their tally from the win against Salford last season.

Updated

Goal! Boreham Wood 0-4 Burton (Williams 83)

Terence Vancooten plays in Dylan Williams who tucks it away to put Burton out of sight.

Updated

Goal! Manchester City 8-0 Exeter (O'Reilly 79)

Are you feeling big, Pep? Well done.

Updated

Goal! Fulham 2-1 Middlesbrough (Smith Rowe 77)

Tom Cairney feeds Emile Smith Rowe in the box, who finds the far corner with his finish to complete the turnaround for Fulham.

Updated

Goal! Manchester City 7-0 Exeter (Reijnders 71)

Come on Pep, take the foot of the pedal.

Updated

Goal! Boreham Wood 0-3 Burton (Fábio Tavares 67)

Burton get a third, this time from a set-piece as Fábio Tavares converts with a clinical finish from inside a crowded box.

Goal! Newcastle 1-2 Bournemouth (Brooks 68)

The Cherries have turned this around. Brooks carries it all the way from inside his own half up to the edge of the Newcastle box, his attempted pass comes back to him, so he skips away from his defender and curls a low shot past Ramsdale.

Updated

Goal! Burnley 4-0 Millwall (Barnes 65)

A rare start and a rare double for Barnes. Fine wine.

Updated

Goal! Sheffield Wednesday 0-2 Brentford (Jensen pen 64)

Cole McGhee fouled Romelle Donovan just inside the box and Jensen, who setup the first, gets on the scoresheet with a tidy penalty.

Goal! Newcastle 1-1 Bournemouth (Scott 62)

Evanilson gathers in the box and running away from goal he fires across Aaron Ramsdale where an unmarked Alex Scott can convert into an empty net. That comes after Sven Botman hit the post at the other end to miss the chance to give Newcastle a 2-0 lead. All square.

Email in from Wednesday fan Bill Preston:

With all the issues around the S6 based club in the last twelve months, the best one hopes for each game is that one of the young players in severely depleted squad manages to nick a goal against an opponent and spread a small piece of joy.

It’s not going to be a vintage season of thrilling heroics against the odds and a getting a stomp on in the final third of the season to get the play off spot, but one of grim reconciliation with the fate that awaits.

As it is, they’re doing very well given the awful circumstances they are under. And will be again next season.

Goal! Fulham 1-1 Middlesbrough (Wilson 60)

How much room did Boro want to give Wilson there? The Welshman does not need that much invitation to shoot from the edge of the box but no one in visitor’s defence closed him down and Wilson finds the bottom corner with a well-placed strike.

Goal! Doncaster 2-3 (Gibson 59)

I wrote this off far too soon. Jordan Gibson has got another for Rovers and they have half an hour to find an equaliser.

Goal! Manchester City 6-0 Exeter (Semenyo 54)

Signed off with a goal for Bournemouth against Tottenham and does not have to wait an hour to register his first goal for City. Some week for Antoine Semenyo. Played in by Rayan Cherki, Semenyo gets in front of the defender and slots past Whitworth in the Exeter goal.

Updated

Newcastle 1-0 Bournemouth

Evanilson has the ball in the net but he’s offside. Bournemouth have responded well to falling behind and have Newcastle under pressure.

Goal! Manchester City 5-0 Exeter (Lewis 49)

I might stop doing updates on these for the sake of Exeter’s dignity.

Updated

Goal! Doncaster 1-3 Southampton (Pearson 48)

Rovers have one back, a glimmer of hope?

Goal! Newcastle 1-0 Bournemouth (Barnes 50)

Two goals in midweek and now he gets another, Harvey Barnes has ten for the season now. This one was laid on by Nick Woltemade for Barnes to poke home.

Updated

Sheffield Wednesday 0-1 Brentford

Jordan Henderson has come off at half-time to be replaced by Vitaly Janelt.

Ipswich Town 1-0 Blackpool
Manchester City 4-0 Exeter City
Newcastle 0-0 Bournemouth
Sheffield Wednesday 0-1 Brentford
Stoke 0-0 Coventry

Goal! Manchester City 4-0 Exeter (Fitzwater OG 45+2)

Another distaster, this time Tijjani Reijnders cuts a ball back dangerously across goal and Jakc Fitzwater puts into his own net as he and a teammate get in eachother’s way.

Updated

Sheffield Wednesday 0-1 Brentford

Charlie McNeill fires a free-kick just over the bar from a long way out, it was always rising but may have had Valdimarsson scrambling for a second.

Goal! Boreham Wood 0-2 Burton (O'Connell OG 41)

Charlie O’Connell has put his into his own net and we have another tie that looks prety settled.

Goal! Manchester City 3-0 Exeter (Doyle-Hayes OG 42)

The Grecians needs half-time and a few friendly substitutions from City as this could get out of hand.

Updated

Goal! Burnley 3-0 Millwall (Anthony 44)

The Clarets have been spirited in the league this season and they’re proving their quality against a Championship side. Anthony adds to his goal against United with another.

Updated

Goal! Doncaster 0-3 Southampton (Matsuki 41)

This is all over.

Goal! Ipswich 1-0 Blackpool (Philogene 35)

Ben Johnson taps it into the path of Jaden Philogene who sweeps home from the left-hand side of the box.

Updated

Sheffield Wednesday 0-1 Brentford

Reiss Nelson should really have doubled Brentford’s lead there. Another wonderful ball Jensen presents the Arsenal loanee with wonderful chance, but he can’t take it.

Goal! Boreham Wood 0-1 Burton (Lofthouse 35)

Kyle Lofthouse slams home the opener having been found in the Boreham Wood box by Kain Adom.

More from Sam Dalling with Exeter team at the Etihad:

Gary Caldwell’s final words to his team.

Goal! Fulham 0-1 Middlesbrough (Hackney 30)

Hayden Hackney is the first to react as the ball comes in after good work out wide from Morgan Whittaker. The Championship side lead.

Updated

Goal! Doncaster 0-2 Southamampton (Archer 24)

Cameron finds the top corner after being picked out in the box by Flynn Downes.

Goal! Sheffield Wednesday 0-1 Brentford (Lewis-Potter 27)

This has been coming. Brentford get a free-kick on the left and Jensen delivers a wicked ball that Lewis-Potter gets on the end of as it comes all the way across the six-yard box.

Updated

Goal! Manchester City 2-0 Exeter (Rodri 24)

Hard to see a way back for Exeter now. This is as classic Rodri goal, a forceful strike from the edge of the box.

Updated

Sheffield Wednesday 0-0 Brentford

Keane Lewis-Potter hits the bar! The Brentford winger gets his head on a cross from the right-hand side and sees it cannon back off the bar. Wednesday scramble behind for a corner that comes to nothing.

Sheffield Wednesday 0-0 Brentford

First sniff of a chance for Wednesday as the ball is swung in towards Bailey Cadamarteri, but Brentford clear.

Stoke 0-0 Coventry

Coventry’s second-choice keeper Ben Wilson is forced into a decent save by Divin Mubama.

Goal! Manchester City 1-0 Exeter (Alleyne 12)

This goal would not be out of place in non-league but Max Alleyne won’t care. Given a chance amid a defensive injury crisis at City he gets a goal after Exter fail to clear their lines. The City defender prods an effort goalward that goes in off the post after a bit of a scramble.

Updated

Goal! Burnley 1-0 Millwall (Barnes 11)

Ashley Barnes gets a rare start and makes the most of it against the Championship side by getting on the end of Jacob Bruun Larsen’s dangerous ball.

Updated

Goal! Doncaster 0-1 Southampton (Bragg 8)

Cameron Bragg has his first senior goal to give Saints the lead at League Two Doncaster.

If you want to read more about the greatest shock in FA Cup history, here’s Dominic Booth’s take from the Leasing.com Stadium (Moss Rose, if you’re a traditionalist):

Peeeep!

We’re underway in the eight 3pm kick-offs.

Penalties: O’Nien scores and Sunderland win the shootout 3-0!

The Sunderland man thumps it down the middle and that’s that. Sunderland win after a miserable showing in the shootout from Everton.

Updated

Penalties: Beto misses! Everton 0-2 Sunderland

Another weak kick from an Everton forward and another Roefs save. Luke O’Nien can win it for Sunderland.

Penalties: Xhaka scores! Everton 0-2 Sunderland

Sharp penalty low to Pickford’s left and the keeper gets nowhere near it.

Penalties: Barry misses! Everton 0-1 Sunderland

Roefs dives to the same side and saves again. Barry never looked convincing.

Penalties: Le Fee scores! Everton 0-1 Sunderland

No Panenka this time, it’s the top right corner. Advantage Sunderland.

Penalties: Garnes misses! Everton 0-0 Sunderland

Roefs reads it and saves down to his right, Garner scored his penalty in normal time but can’t convert his second of the day.

Full-time in extra-time: Everton 1-1 Sunderland

Right then, penalties it is.

Updated

Full-time: Everton 1-1 Sunderland

This one is going to added-time and potentially penalties.

Full-time: Wolves 6-1 Shrewsbury

Arokodare added another in added-time, apologies I missed that in thee excitement at Macclesfield and Everton.

Goal! Macclesfield 2-1 Crystal Palace (Pino 90)

Yeremy Pino makes the six minutes of injury time interesting with a decent free-kick that gets up and over the wall. Can Macclesfield hang on?

Goal! Everton 1-1 Sunderland (Garner 89, pen)

Extra-time beckons, now you feel. Trai Hume bundles into Adam Aznou in the box and the referee points to the spot. James Garner’s kick is a good one, low and hard to the keeper’s left.

Updated

Goal! Wolves 5-1 Shrewsbury (Rodrigo Gomes 86)

Wolves do get their fifth as Rodrigo Gomes pounces on a shot after it comes back off the post. At least it’s not a long journey for the Shrews fans.

Wolves 4-1 Shrewsbury

Tolu Arokodare has just missed a huge chance to make this 5-1, it looked like a simple tap-in at the back post as the ball was fizzed across the six-yard box, but he fails to connect. The Nigerian has struggled to make an impact since his summer arrival and that won’t help his confidence. Five plus change to go at Molineux.

If you want more regular updates on Palace v Macclesfield, John Ashdown has minute-by-minute coverage here:

Everton 0-1 Sunderland

Eliezer Mayenda has just hit the post for Sunderland as they chase a second against Everton. There are 20 minutes for David Moyes’s side to find an equaliser in their special dark blue FA Cup kit.

Goal! Macclesfield 2-0 Crystal Palace (Buckley-Ricketts 60)

Wow! Nothing pretty about that but what a moment for Isaac Buckley-Ricketts. The Macclesfield forward dangles a leg at unconvincing shot after a bit of a scramble in the box and the National League North side lead 2-0 against the holders. Half an hour to go for one of the biggest cup shocks in history.

Updated

Quick score update from that games kicked-off at 12.15pm:
Cheltenham 0-2 Leicester
Everton 0-1 Sunderland
Macclesfield 1-0 Crystal Palace
Wolves 4-1 Shrewsbury

Preamble

The last FA Cup semi-final at Hillsborough was played in 1997, a replay between Middlesbrough and Chesterfield after they drew 3-3 at Old Trafford. Replays and neutral games at anywhere other Wembley are now a thing of the past, as, sadly, are Sheffield Wednesday as a force in English football. With new ownership the truly dark times are hopefully behind this grand old club but they are still on the bottom end of the dip.

Brentford actually made it to Wembley in 1997, where they lost the Division Two playoff final to Crewe Alexandra. How times have changed. Brentford are expected to sweep past the Championship basement dwellers today.

There are eight FA Cup third round fixtures this afternoon and I’ll be keeping an eye on everything from Boreham Wood v Burton to Manchester City v Exeter.

Before then we have a number of early fixtures that are nearing their conclusion, I’ll bring you updates from those and team news from the 3pm kick-offs as soon as I get it.
