The Sydney Swans midfielder Taylor Adams was taken to hospital after being knocked unconscious in an incident outside a popular club on Saturday night.

The 32-year-old Adams was allegedly assaulted after an argument with two men at a venue in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, New South Wales police said.

Police were called to a licensed venue on Vickery Avenue in the harbourside suburb of Rose Bay just after 10pm after the incident.

Adams had lost consciousness briefly and sustained a small cut to his cheek after allegedly being knocked to the ground by one man.

He was attended to by NSW paramedics and taken to St Vincent’s hospital for further treatment and assessment.

Both men had left the scene before police arrived.

Police were told the men were not known to Adams.

The Swans said Adams was discharged from hospital at 7am on Sunday morning and will be monitored on a daily basis.

“The Sydney Swans does not tolerate violence in any form and is working with Adams and NSW police to identify the offender,” the AFL club said in a statement.

The incident reportedly happened outside Club Rose Bay, which is owned by Justin Hemmes’s Merivale Group and was recently reopened after being refurbished.

Adams, a veteran midfielder, has spent his pre-season training in rehabilitation after suffering a partial tear of his achilles tendon in December.

The one-time All-Australian was limited to just four appearances last season in his second season at the Swans after recurring hamstring injuries.

Adams had made the move from Collingwood at the end of 2023, missing out on a spot in the 2024 grand final against Brisbane under then coach John Longmire.
