Barcelona
Victor Valdés 6 A spectator throughout the match including on Ronaldo's wild penalty. Was quick to distribute the ball to get Barcelona going forward
Gianluca Zambrotta 7 More willing to progress up the line than normal but his only telling cut back fell behind team mates. He was happy to take long shots
Gabriel Milito 6 Guilty of the rash handball that gifted a first-minute penalty to United. The Argentinian defender looked nervous thereafter
Rafael Márquez 7 Booked for a foul on Ronaldo but happy to take card. Rarely forced to defend and not always at ease when he was. Dangerous at set plays
Eric Abidal 6 Most of his surging runs were ignored by his team mates. The French international was quick and strong, and defensively solid
Yaya Touré 8 Competitive, powerful and impeccably positioned throughout. The Ivory Coast midfielder showed his unusual forward drive
Xavi 9 A little less fluid than normal early on but maintained possession, was always intelligent with the ball and ended up totally dominant
Deco 7 Occasionally imprecise but always wanted the ball and gave Barça some of the competitive intelligence otherwise lacking.
Lionel Messi 8 Dipped after a phenomenal start but still the side's most dangerous player. Wonderful footwork, vision and touch. Only lasted an hour
Samuel Eto'o 7 Worked really hard, always offering himself but seemed to mistime many runs. Wasted game's best chance. Should have earned a penalty
Andrés Iniesta 8 Guilty of almost costly give away. Not as comfortable on left and much more significant when drifting inside and later switched to right
Manchester United
Edwin van der Sar 6 Made a couple of routine saves as Barcelona camped in United's half but made few testing attempts on goal. Saved a late Henry free-kick.
Owen Hargreaves 6 At right-back because of the absence of Vidic and was not comfortable but nor was he tested as often as Barça would have liked. Booked.
Wes Brown 6 Defended reasonably but looked ill at ease on the ball as Barcelona pressed to the edge of the penalty area with neat passes.
Rio Ferdinand 7 Showed his pace against Samuel Eto'o and responded well on a difficult night when the United defence was forced very deep.
Patrice Evra 6 Barça had a lot of early joy down Evra's wing, especially through Messi, but the French defender grew in confidence.
Cristiano Ronaldo 6 A dreadful penalty miss and, despite some bursts of pace, was disappointing. Prone to hitting the deck at the slightest tap.
Michael Carrick 7 Neat, tidy and admirably unfussy on the ball but too often forced deep. Lashed one chance into the home side's side-netting.
Paul Scholes 6 Never got a grip on the game, with or without the ball. Harried and pressed as Barcelona teased with their flowing passes and confident possession.
Ji-Sung Park 5 Essentially selected as an additional defender, who contributed nothing to attack on a night when United put discipline before flair.
Carlos Tevez 6 Came deep - often behind the midfielders - to bolster United's defence. Willing attitude was often counter-productive.
Wayne Rooney 6 Played in a right-sided position and worked hard but made little real impact. Made way for Nani late in the second half.
