Dimitar Berbatov returned to training today following a hamstring injury but the Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is yet to decide whether to use him in Sunday's derby match against Manchester City. United's record signing has missed the last two games owing to a minor injury he picked when on international duty for Bulgaria.
Berbatov joined his team-mates for the latter part of a training session this morning. However, Ferguson has promised not to take any chances with the striker and will assess his fitness over the next three days. "Dimitar started training today but hamstring injuries are never easy to deal with," he said. "We have to be careful because he has never had one before. We will have to gauge whether it is wise to use him from the start on Sunday or better to have him on the bench."
Ferguson also confirmed that the seasoned duo of Gary Neville and Paul Scholes are back in training but did not make their availability for the 150th competitive derby clear. Neville has been battling against a groin injury and could be fit to face City, but Scholes, who recently underwent an operation on his knee following an injury picked up in the Champions League meeting at Aalborg, is more likely to be rested until United meet the Danes in a fortnight.
