A thrilling last-minute try by Kameli Ratuvou secured victory for Fiji in Cardiff and kept their quarter-finals hopes alive.

Fiji's pace and power impressed from kick off. Swift passing enabled them to quickly build up a lead. Tries from Kele Leawere, Kamelu Ratuvou and Vilimoni Delasau were just reward for some sparkling play and ensured Fiji were leading 22-6 at just past the half-way mark.

However, Fiji, whose ambition and creativity had impressed, came under increasing pressure as the second half wore on. Ryan Smith scored a try on 58 minutes to reduce the arrears after a long period of Canadian aggression. Mike Pyke had a try disallowed by the video official on 70 minutes, but a James Pritchard penalty pulled the Canadians back into the game and set up a tight finale.

With only two minutes to go Canada won a penalty and kicked deep into the Fijian's 22. The Candians committed to a score, drove every closer to the line. However, a careless spill to Kameli Ratuvou saw the Fijian race 80m to land a killing counter-punch and secure victory.
