Llanelli Scarlets have put on-pitch success ahead of financial gain, opting to keep their Heineken Cup quarter-final against reigning European champions Munster at Stradey Park rather than move it to a bigger venue.
Stradey Park has a capacity of under 11,000, and the Scarlets had considered switching the tie to the Ospreys' Liberty Stadium in Swansea, which can hold just over 20,000. But after a meeting earlier today, the club's directors decided against any move, fearing that playing away from their regular home could count against them in such a difficult tie.
"We have made an early decision on the venue to end speculation from media and spectators that we were moving the game away from Stradey Park," said chief executive Stuart Gallacher. "Our players and supporters deserve the best possible opportunity of progressing further in the knockout stages, and we believe playing at Stradey Park gives us that chance."
Llanelli qualified for the knockout phase as second seeds after winning all six of their group games. Quarter-final dates and kick-off times are set to be announced later this week, with the other ties seeing Leicester hosting Stade Francais, Wasps entertaining Leinster and Northampton visiting Biarritz.
