The Bristol assistant coach John Brain has extended his contract with the struggling Premiership club by a year.

Brain, the former Worcester rugby director, joined Bristol in 2007, having masterminded the former's promotion to the Premiership three years earlier.

"It's good to get everything sorted so early," said Brain. "I can now focus on the rest of the season and continue with my planning for 2009-10."

Bristol have also confirmed the signing of centre Jack Adams from Gloucester. Adams, 22, is an England sevens international, and made his Gloucester debut as an 18-year-old.

Bristol head coach Paul Hull said: "He is a strong, direct runner with experience of domestic and European rugby. He will be a great asset to our squad."
