Carlos Spencer's Kingsholm future is up in the air after he revealed he was only committed to Gloucester until the end of this season. Gloucester announced in February that Spencer had signed a 17-month contract after leaving their Guinness Premiership rivals Northampton.
But the former All Black fly-half has told the Western Daily Press that his future beyond this season is yet to be decided. "I've only signed for five months, that's all I've done, so I've got no plans at the moment," he said. "I've said to Gloucester I just want to finish up the five months and see where it takes me. I've got no plans, we'll just have to see what happens."
Spencer would not rule out a move to France but admits the lure of a return to New Zealand is strong. "I do miss home, I miss the lifestyle," he said. "My wife's missing home, she's nagging me every day that she wants to go home. We'll see what happens. I've not made decisions. I'm happy cruising along."
Spencer joined Gloucester in February after the coach Dean Ryan conceded his plan to partner Ryan Lamb with Olly Barkley in the Cherry and Whites' midfield had not worked. With Nicky Robinson arriving from Cardiff in the summer to swell Gloucester's fly-half ranks further, Lamb and Barkley have both been linked with moves at the end of the season. The centre Anthony Allen and prop Carlos Nieto are also reportedly on their way out of Kingsholm.
Gloucester, the EDF Energy Cup finalists, had their Premiership title hopes dented at the weekend by a 44-20 defeat at Northampton.
