Gavin Henson has trained with Wales this week after having played just 80 minutes of rugby in the last 21 months.

Henson, who made his debut for Saracens from the bench on Boxing Day before playing the first 53 minutes against Sale last Sunday, was among 40 players put through fitness sessions by Wales's new strength and conditioning coach, Adam Beard. Also called up were his fellow exiles Andy Powell and Dwayne Peel.

Beard's fitness findings will go some way to determining whether Henson, who has not played international rugby since March 2009, will be in Wales's Six Nations squad, which will be announced after the end of the Heineken Cup group stage.

The Wales coach, Warren Gatland, will also monitor the reaction of the senior players to Henson's return. A mutiny almost broke out at the start of the season when the Welsh Rugby Union used Henson, who was then still on sabbatical, as the face of its new kit.

The Lions centre Jamie Roberts, who has made the 12 jersey his own in Henson's absence, made a remark on his Twitter page about the use of Henson's image, but it was quickly taken down.

Henson was first capped in 2001 but has made only 31 appearances for Wales and has never appeared in the World Cup. He has, though, only lost one Six Nations match that he has started and England loom in Cardiff at the beginning of next month.

Henson has played at outside-centre in his two appearances for Saracens and has made it clear had wants to be given a chance at inside-centre.
