Danny Cipriani has been stood down by the Melbourne Rebels for their next game following a second off-the-pitch incident in less than three months.

The England fly-half breached club protocol by staying out late after Saturday's loss to the NSW Waratahs and, along with his team-mate Richard Kingi, will now miss Friday's match against the Queensland Reds.

"Both players defied a team directive to abstain from staying out late on Saturday night, given the six-day break ahead of our next game," the Rebels chief executive, Ross Oakley, said. "The club fully supports the decision of our player standards group."

Cipriani was fined by the Australian club in February after he allegedly helped himself to a bottle of vodka from behind the bar of a Melbourne nightclub. He was warned then that any further indiscretions could result in a ban.

The 23-year-old has also had a difficult season on the pitch and was dropped to the bench for the game against the Waratahs following some poor defensive performances.
