Clubs have been looking for ways to beat the cold weather, but Wasps have gone further than anyone by exploring the possibility of playing their LV Cup match against Harlequins next month in Abu Dhabi.
Premiership clubs have spent the past couple of years considering the feasibility of taking a match abroad and Wasps have approached the Rugby Football Union about taking the Anglo-Welsh cup clash abroad.
"We are looking at plans around this fixture but nothing is set in stone," said Wasps in a statement. "We are in consultation with the RFU, Harlequins and the sponsors. We are always keen to find ways to be innovative and extend the footprint of the club, while promoting the sport, but at this moment nothing has been agreed."
If the match is switched, it would amount to a trial, with the LV Cup a distant third in the priorities of clubs behind Europe and the league. A successful switch would increase the prospect of Premiership matches being staged abroad.
