Wales
James Hook 5
Experiment at No15 a qualified success. Sound in defence but creative talents are better utilised in midfield.
Morgan Stoddart 6
The Scarlet showed how dangerous he can be with first‑half breakaway and a well‑taken try.
Jamie Roberts 5
Back after injury, the medical student made fewer incisions in the midfield than he would have liked.
Jonathan Davies 5
The centre has had a marvellous season and while he did little wrong he had few chances to show his running skills.
Shane Williams 5
In perhaps his last game against England he wasted a chance by kicking away possession late in the first half.
Stephen Jones 6
Hurt in an early tackle on Ben Foden and he missed an easy early penalty while groggy. Settled to play soundly.
Mike Phillips 6
The Lions scrum-half had an excellent first half but lacked a bit of spark and threw a few wayward passes.
Paul James 6
Early scrum against the head gave plenty for Dan Cole to think about. Effective replacement for Gethin Jenkins.
Matthew Rees 5
Captain had a subdued night but improved after the break and could not be blamed for a malfunctioning lineout.
Craig Mitchell 6
He may be keeping the seat warm for Adam Jones but coped well with the power of Andrew Sheridan.
Bradley Davies 7
Was probably the pick of the Welsh forwards with some good carries and worked tirelessly in the second row.
Alun Wyn Jones 5
The scapegoat for last year's defeat at Twickenham rarely imposed himself against the England eight here.
Dan Lydiate 7
Took exceptional form for the Dragons to the international stage. A telling contribution to back-row efforts.
Sam Warburton 7
Justified his selection ahead of Martyn Williams and looks destined to be Wales's No7 for many years.
Andy Powell 6
Picked ahead of Ryan Jones, he failed to make it to the interval but in 33 minutes made some muscular charges.
Substitutes Ryan Jones (for Powell, 33), Lee Byrne (for S Jones, 66), Jonathan Thomas (for Lydiate, 70), Dwayne Peel (for Phillips, 70), Jon Yapp (for Mitchell, 70), Richard Hibbard (for Rees, 72).
England
Ben Foden 7
Not the biggest full-back in the world but showed power with jinking runs. His best England display.
Chris Ashton 7
Settled England with excellent positional play for his first try and the second when England had an extra man.
Mike Tindall 6
England's latest captain had a solid if unspectacular game but excelled defensively. Had a hand in second try.
Shontayne Hape 6
Some useful breaks but the Bath man is handicapped by an inability to pass off his left hand.
Mark Cueto 7
A try continues to elude the Sale wing but showed his power and did little wrong. Was always a threat.
Toby Flood 8
His sleight of hand created Ashton's first try and he continues to justify his selection ahead of Jonny Wilkinson.
Ben Youngs 7
Unable to continue his sublime form of the past eight months but conceded little in his battle with Mike Phillips.
Andrew Sheridan 6
A solid display in the front row and was England's best ball‑carrier in the first half. Lasted an hour.
Dylan Hartley 7
Responded to Warren Gatland's barbs with one of his best England displays. Throwing was much improved.
Dan Cole 6
Needed some attention on an injured shoulder before the break but recovered to play key part in dominant scrum.
Louis Deacon 6
Was shown the yellow card for a professional foul, a decision by Alain Rolland that disrupted England's early momentum.
Tom Palmer 7
Gave the England engine-room plenty of power and shored up a lineout that failed to function against the Springboks.
Tom Wood 7
Carried the ball well and did useful work at the tail of a lineout that was hampered by Deacon's sin-binning.
James Haskell 6
Gave away a penalty to give Wales their first points. Worked tirelessly but England missed Tom Croft.
Nick Easter 7
Made some useful carries. He may lack real pace but his strength and rugby brain make him invaluable.
Substitutes David Wilson (for Sheridan, 61), Joe Worsley (for Haskell, 62), Danny Care (for Youngs, 62) Jonny Wilkinson (for Flood, 66), Steve Thompson for (Hartley, 70), Simon Shaw (for Deacon, 70).
