Matt Dawson has been axed from England's Elite Squad after failing to attend training because of business commitments.
Acting head coach Andy Robinson announced that Dawson had been dropped from the 60-man squad which met today to begin their preparations for the Autumn tests with Canada, South Africa and Australia.
Robinson said that he and the Wasps star were both disappointed with the situation, but added: "The door is still open for a return at some point, should his priorities change."
Dawson said: "I have a long-standing commitment that I simply can't reverse. I'll work hard to earn my place back. Obviously I am disappointed to be out of the squad but I understand and respect Andy's decision."
Robinson plans to replace both Dawson and Lawrence Dallaglio, who recently announced his retirement from international rugby, in the 60-man squad.
