Ryan Giggs believes winning a 13th Premier League title with Manchester United this season would rank alongside his greatest achievements considering the riches available to their cross-town rivals, Manchester City.

Sir Alex Ferguson's side beat Queens Park Rangers 2-0 on Sunday and Manchester City lost 1-0 at Arsenal to leave United with an eight-point lead and six matches remaining. Asked where winning the title would rank in his own career, Giggs said: "It would be huge. When you look at the spending power Manchester City have, the injuries we've had, the experience we've lost – Scholesy [Paul Scholes] for half the season, Edwin van der Sar, John O'Shea, Wes Brown.

"Then the challenge we faced bringing in a new goalkeeper – David de Gea came in for a lot of criticism early on but he's worked hard and he's showing terrific form at a key time – and the young talent we've blooded, it would be a massive achievement.

"You had to give credit to City at the start of the season as they were playing well and scoring lots of goals. Their key players were performing and they have a great squad so, even if they were going to get injuries or suspensions, they were going to handle it. We just had to hang in there, just like the other teams probably felt."

United have won their past eight league games and Giggs identified this momentum as vital during the title run-in. "At this stage I don't think it really matters who is top," he said. "The key word is momentum. Whoever has momentum will win it. We've chased down teams before and we've been chased down ourselves. What you are looking for is to hit form at the right time and then feed off the positive results you're getting and go on a roll. And I think we are doing that at the moment.

"We are experienced enough to know there are plenty of points to be gained and lost. Until it is mathematically impossible for us to be caught, we won't be counting our chickens. We never do."
