Manchester United
David De Gea: Conceded his first league goals since January – 678 minutes in total. Picking the ball out of the net were his only patent actions. 5
Rafael da Silva: Showed no sign of his recent groin strain, and got forward with superb energy. Hit the bar with a looping toe poke in the first half. 7
Rio Ferdinand: Bullied by Tevez in the early stages, his performance improved as the game went on, distributing well into midfield. 5
Phil Jones: Made an early sliding tackle on Tevez to deny a certain goal and bundled a Van Persie free-kick off Kompany for United's equaliser. 8
Patrice Evra: The captain was afforded a lot of room going forward early on, but Milner's growing presence pinned him back. 5
Michael Carrick: Arguably United's player of the season, but his side's lack of possession meant he was overshadowed by Silva in the middle. 6
Ryan Giggs: Had his pocket picked by Barry in the build-up to Milner's goal. Began to show signs of age in his 37th Manchester derby. 5
Danny Welbeck: His pace was vital in United's strategy of hitting City on the break but wasted possession in crucial passages of play. 5
Wayne Rooney: Returning from a two-game absence, he struggled to find space and never threatened. Did not have a single effort on goal. Booked. 6
Ashley Young: Twisted and turned without ever beating Zabaleta. Had a good drive well saved by Hart in the second half. 5
Robin van Persie: Failed to score for the 10th United game in a row and was quiet in open play but devastating with the dead ball. 6
Manchester City
Joe Hart: Another goalkeeper who had a quiet day, due to cagey nature of the game. His voice was heard throughout, organising his defence. 6
Pablo Zabaleta: Struggled at times to contain the pace of Young and Evra but, as many times this season, was dependable. Booked. 7
Vincent Kompany: Unlucky to concede an own-goal off his back. Kompany's return from injury has coincided with City looking much more resolute. Booked. 7
Matija Nastasic: The young defender continues to impress alongside his captain. Won the aerial battle with Van Persie and read the game well. 8
Gaël Clichy: Had a quiet day, refusing to commit forward. Was nearly caught out under the high ball before Hart saved his bacon. 6
Gareth Barry: Justified his selection by pressing Rooney and Welbeck and tackled Giggs to set up City's opener. Simple passes, strong tackles. Booked. 7
Yaya Touré: Forced to sit in a deeper role alongside Barry. Efficient and tidy without getting up to his buccaneering and bullying best. 7
James Milner: Man City's only natural wide-man was their best outlet, crossing dangerously to no avail. Struck opener with real venom. 8
David Silva: City's chief tormentor in the 6-1 drubbing last season again looked composed. Booked for hand-ball in the first half. 7
Samir Nasri: Mancini's rant about Nasri not performing consistently rang true again – went missing for long periods. Was subbed for Agüero. 5
Carlos Tevez: Amid boos from fans of his former club, he held ball up expertly with his back to goal. Was well marshalled in front of it. Booked late on. 8
