One-way traffic for Sale after a delay

Sale 57 -3 Worcester After a slow start, the Sharks - and Chris Jones in particular - tore Worcester apart to maintain their 100% record.

Rumour has it that Sale's French No8 Sébastien Chabal's first words in English during an early language lesson were, "We are the champions" and after the Sharks maintained their 100% record the 26-year-old's assertion may not be too far-fetched.

They extended their winning home run in the league to 10 matches by recording the highest top-flight score in three years.

Traffic congestion caused a delayed kick-off and when the match eventually got underway, Sale initially looked anything but contenders. In the first passage of play Chabal knocked-on a high ball from Neil Cole from which Worcester counterattacked down the left through Ben Gollings. But the move, like Worcester's overall performance on the night, came up short.

Sale's riposte was immediate when, in their first foray, Magnus Lund's smart off-load opened up the blind-side for Chris Jones to slide in unopposed. Hodgson added the touchline conversion. It then became one-way traffic and the pressure told as Hodgson put in Mark Cueto for Sale's second, Hodgson adding another beautiful conversion.

Worcester finally got on the board on 26 minutes through a James Brown penalty, but that was quickly cancelled out by one from Hodgson before the fly-half converted Jones's second try, galloping over from 25 metres. Hodgson's next conversion was completed far more easily after suspect Worcester tackling allowed Lund to secure Sale's first try-scoring bonus point of the season.

Worcester briefly camped on Sale's line, but the frustration of finding no way through got to prop Colin Noon, who was sin-binned for an altercation with his opposite number Barry Stewart.

Sale initially lacked the same clinical edge in the second half and Hodgson also missed his first shots at goal, striking the upright with a 25-metre penalty and the conversion of Bryan Redpath's try. However Jason Robinson lifted the crowd on the hour, sprinting in from halfway, and Worcester's misery was compounded when Stuart Turner crashed over and Jones completed his hat-trick.
