Ander Herrera will be available for Manchester United’s home match with Queens Park Rangers on Sunday.

The Spaniard suffered an ankle injury last month and the news he is fit is a boost for Louis van Gaal as the manager seeks to guide United to the first Premier League win of his tenure after the opening three matches resulted in a defeat and two draws.

On Monday evening Herrera tweeted: “Training hard and looking forward to this next game at Old Trafford!”

The 25-year-old has made one appearance for United since joining in the summer in a £29m deal from Athletic Bilbao. He was taken off in the 67th minute of United’s 2-1 opening-day defeat by Swansea City at Old Trafford.

Radamel Falcao, United’s £6m loan signing from Monaco, is expected to be in contention for his debut against QPR.
