Bath full-back Nick Abendanon has been called into England's World Cup squad as a replacement for the injured Josh Lewsey.

Abendanon will fly out to Paris to join the England squad just five days before they tackle South Africa in the World Cup final.

Lewsey was ruled out of the final today after a scan confirmed he suffered a hamstring strain in England's 14-9 victory over France last weekend.

"I'm just absolutely gutted. To miss out on the final is personally devastating," said Lewsey. "But there's more important factors than that. All I care about is that England win - I don't care how. But it's not the time for self pity. It's a time to be positive and look what we've achieved over the last few weeks."

Abendanon was favoured above Wasps' Danny Cipriani, who was in England's pre-tournament training squad but missed out on selection.
