The Manchester United midfielder Ángel Di María has given his support to a campaign to help a family in Argentina who lost their daughter to a rare condition.

Di María, who missed Saturday’s 2-1 win over Crystal Palace due to injury, posted a picture on the Facebook account dedicated to the memory of Dugo Luz Medina, who comes from his home town of Rosario. She died last year from hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) - an illness that can cause anemia and kidney problems – and the 27-year-old appeared with a message designed to increase awareness of her plight.

“She dreamed of being a princess … unfortunately today she is an angel,” read the message. “HUS is a very cruel illness that affects children. Know the symptoms and the illness. Do not be fooled by the disinformation.”

For more information, go to the campaign’s Facebook page.
