Ángel di María became the 41st Manchester United player to suffer injury this season when he hobbled off with what appeared a hamstring problem 13 minutes into the encounter with Hull City at Old Trafford.

The Argentinian seemed to pull the muscle near the centre circle and, after play was stopped, the British record signing resumed playing, only to wander off to the touchline nearest the United bench to give the message he should come off.

After being replaced by Ander Herrera, Di María walked straight towards the tunnel for treatment as Louis van Gaal was forced into reshuffling the team shape. Robin van Persie, who had been operating in an unfamiliar midfield role was pushed up to join Wayne Rooney in attack, where Di María had been stationed.
