1:B - The Movistar Team rider became the first Ecuadorian to win a grand tour, proving stronger than Nibali and Roglic in second and third, respectively, not to mention his Movistar teammate Mikel Landa in fourth. , 2:B - Binda was the original master of the Giro: he won it in 1925, 1927, 1928, 1929 and 1933. He passed away in 1986, at the age of 83., 3:C - Named in honour of Fausto Coppi, the legendary Italian racer, the Cima Coppi is a prestigious prize that also brings the winner a bumper score in the King of the Mountains classification., 4:D - The Essex rider triumphed in a 54.8km individual time trial from Gabicce Mare to Saltara, defeating compatriot Wiggins in the process., 5:C - Froome had endured a difficult race overall up to that point - but came seemingly from nowhere to score one of the most impressive stage wins in the history of Grand Tour racing., 6:A - A visit to Hungary’s capital city would have been the 14th time the race has begun outside of Italy., 7:A - Pöstlberger, an Austrian, capitalised on a late crash in the bunch and ended up taking the Maglia Rosa in Sardinia, despite having been on lead-out duty., 8:A - The Dutchman blamed too many energy gels for his unplanned and very public toilet stop.
