The Football Association of Ireland has confirmed that the Republic of Ireland’s friendly against England in Dublin on 7 June will kick off at 1pm following discussions with the FA, broadcasters and the gardaí.
England have not played in the Republic since 1995, when a friendly had to be abandoned because of rioting fans at Lansdowne Road.
A statement on the FAI website read: “The Football Association of Ireland today [Wednesday] confirmed that kick-off time has been confirmed for 1pm on Sunday 7 June following discussions with the FA, broadcasters, and the gardaí. 3,000 tickets will be made available through the FA for English supporters. Irish ticket sales details will be provided in due course.”
England drew 1-1 with Ireland at Wembley in May 2013 – the first time the two had met since the 1995 friendly was called off after 27 minutes when seats in the England section were ripped up and missiles thrown.
