I disagree with his suggestion that he does not understand giving the No 2 goalkeeper in these games. They need to be as sharp as possible if the first choice suffers an injury. Maybe the problem is that Darlow is not an elite goalkeeper.

Redknapp is absolutely furious with Yoro and Heaven. He seems upset that he’s been forced to watch them play.

Manchester United 2-1 Brighton: I am interested to see if Darlow can do a job for United. I’d be worried if Lammens gets injured because I’ve never particularly rated the former Leeds man.

Espen B says: “Abraham, who Emery clearly doesn’t rate at all has scored for Villa, an academy kid has scored for United, Koumas and Nyoni were arguably Liverpool’s best players last night. Yes, it’s the Carabao/milk/league cup against semi reserve sides but considering all these teams have struggled so far this season, maybe their respective managers should rethink a little bit and play players on merit, not transfer value or name recognition?”

He’s always been a fine player and good to see him getting a chance. Lacey, I am sure, could have left United at some point in recent times but has committed to the club and is getting his chance under Carrick. It will be interesting to see how his career goes compared to JJ Gabriel.

Mason Mount is given a start for Manchester United. He is such a talented player and is well-liked by all those who deal with him but it struggles to stay fight and fit properly into a system. Maybe Carrick is the man to get the best out him.
