Saracens have finally lost patience with their captain Abdel Benazzi and made it clear the former French skipper, linked with a summer move to Sale, has played his last game for the Watford-based club.
Benazzi, 33, still has a year left on his existing contract but Saracens' chief executive Peter Deakin yesterday described the veteran forward's position as "untenable" following his appearance alongside the Sale owner Brian Kennedy at last month's Zurich Championship quarter-final at Heywood Road
"We're very sensitive to the fact his father has recently died but we think Abdel has some serious decisions to make," said Deakin, who also confirmed the signing of Leicester fly-half Andy Goode yesterday.
"I don't think we would have him back now. We're extremely disappointed, especially because he was club captain, and we look forward to hearing from Sale." Saracens are releasing the former Springbok fly-half Jannie de Beer.
The Pontypridd back-row forward Michael Owen, 21, will become Wales' 1,000th capped international when he faces South Africa in Bloemfontein tomorrow.
· Bristol's David Rees will replace Gloucester's injured wing James Simpson-Daniel on England's tour to Argentina this month. The flanker Martin Leslie will miss the rest of Scotland's tour to North America after damaging knee ligaments in the 38-8 victory over Canada East.
