White lives to fight another day as Springboks coach

Rugby union: After a several thousand-mile flight and a four-hour wait, South African coach Jake White was told he could keep his job.

Jake White has survived a motion of no confidence by five of South Africa's 14 unions and will continue as national coach.

White, who was made to wait four hours before his hearing, said afterwards: "I'm relieved that I can get on with life and not feel like someone is trying to take my job every weekend."

Chiliboy Ralepelle will be the first black captain of South Africa when he leads them against a World XV on Sunday.

The London Irish back-row Olivier Magne and Bristol hooker Mark Regan will appear before a Rugby Football Union disciplinary committee on Monday.

Magne has been cited for stamping in Irish's 40-5 win over Northampton last Sunday; Regan has been charged with kicking an opponent in Friday's 14-12 victory over Gloucester.

The England flanker Richard Hill is set for a return to action after 16 months out injured in Saracens' EDF Cup match against Wasps tomorrow night.
