New Zealand are through to the World Cup quarter-finals after a 40-0 win over Scotland at Murrayfield.

The All Blacks scored six tries to earn a bonus point which ensures they will finish top of Pool C. They have racked up 224 points in three pool victories with one match to go against Romania.

Wing Doug Howlett set a New Zealand record of 47 tries when he touched down for the second score after 15 minutes and he extended his tally to 48 late in the game.

Scotland rested most of their first-choice players to keep them fresh for the final group game against Italy on September 29, which has become a play-off for a place in the last eight.
