The sponsors of the sport's two biggest events have "invoked an early termination clause" in their contracts with the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association. In a letter to players the WPBSA cited "the current economic climate" and pointed out that "market conditions have changed during the course of the agreements". The WPBSA, whose last accounts showed reserves of £2.91m, intends to go ahead with modest increases in prize money for both tournaments.
