Leicester Tigers have suspended their scrum-half Harry Ellis for one week after finding him guilty of making a dangerous tackle on Dan Carter during Sunday's 26-20 defeat to Perpignan in the Heineken Cup.

Club officials launched an internal investigation following the tackle and decided to impose the ban on the 26-year-old after a disciplinary hearing today.

The club found Ellis guilty of a dangerous tackle on the All Black fly-half, playing his first game for Perpignan, in contravention of Law 10.4 (e).

A club statement read: "Harry has been banned for one week, and he will miss the Guinness Premiership match against Newcastle Falcons this weekend.

"The club accepts Harry's view that there was no malice and no intent in his actions. Harry is sorry that the incident happened and he would like to apologise to Perpignan player Dan Carter in respect of the incident."

Ellis has also been cited for the alleged dangerous tackle and is due to appear before an independent disciplinary committee in Dublin on Friday.
