After a month in which Manchester United managed not to concede a single goal and took maximum points from each of their games, Sir Alex Ferguson has been made the Premier League manager of the month, while United defender Nemanja Vidic has picked up the player of the month award for January.

After the 3-0 win over Chelsea at Old Trafford, Ferguson steered his side to the top of the table as they made a perfect start to 2009. The award is Ferguson's 22nd manager of the month prize, more than any other manager. He won his first in August 1993.

Vidic has been instrumental in United's record of clean sheets this year after a string of impressive displays. The Serbian international has also been an attacking threat, scoring the opener against Chelsea and the third goal in the win over West Brom.
