The Gambling Commission inquiry into the Stephen Maguire v Jamie Burnett match in December's UK Championship, on which there was an unusual betting pattern for Maguire, left, to win 9–3 – the correct scoreline as it transpired – has been passed to the economic crime unit of Strathclyde police.
Coincidentally, Maguire and Burnett, both Glaswegians, meet again in the first round of the World Championship, which starts in Sheffield on Saturday.
In an unconnected development, the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association has called an EGM to be held in London during the championship on 29 April. Its constitution states the board must consist of a maximum of seven and a minimum of five directors but it is proposed to reduce that (for two years) to five and three respectively.
This is in pursuance of a programme which imposed four recent redundancies and a 10% salary cut for staff.
