Tom Shanklin is undergoing medical assessment for an injury that could rule him out of the British and Irish Lions' tour of South Africa. The Wales centre injured his shoulder in Cardiff Blues' Magners League victory over Newport Gwent Dragons on Wednesday night.
The 29-year-old was taken for an X-ray after the game but will have a further MRI scan to assess the full extent of the damage.
Shanklin's injury, just weeks before the squad's departure for South Africa, provides another headache for the head coach, Ian McGeechan. The Ireland scrum-half Tomás O'Leary has already been ruled out with a broken ankle, while the Munster flanker Alan Quinlan faces a disciplinary hearing that could lead to a ban.
