Talking points: European football’s biggest moments of the weekend

The best stories from European football are back, with the Bundesliga making its debut alongside Ligue 1, Serie A and La Liga.

Making his debut on the Talking Points series, Bundesliga expert Raphael Honigstein chimes in on the surprising leaders of the pack; SC Paderborn. Also on the agenda are Jürgen Klopp’s old club Mainz 05 beating Borussia Dortmund and Hamburg’s delight after a draw with Bayern Munich.
In Italy, Carlos Tevez combines the robot and a child’s dummy for lively celebrations as Serie A guru James Horncastle dissects the strikers’ differing role in Juventus this season. The big advice given is to never get into a fight with Sinisa Mihajlovic and there’s a heart-warming dedication at Parma, Alessandro Florenzi’s grandmother attending a match at age 82.
Andy Brassell rounds up the La Liga news with Ivan Rakitic headlining for Barcelona. Over at Real Madrid, Carlo Ancelotti has to decide which of Karim Benzema and Javier Hernandez is his number nine after Real put eight past Deportivo, Granada are into the top four, and it seems to be the season of the comeback with Villarreal the latest to win having been two goals down.
Marseille are the new leaders in Ligue 1 and Julien Laurens evaluates their prospects of staying there. Why are PSG drawing so much? Monaco are finally out of the bottom three and it’s second against third with St. Etienne taking on Bordeaux in midweek.
