Right, that’s it from me. Thanks for your company. Stick around for all the other Europa League action, but from me cheerio!
Peep! Wanderson scuffs a shot at goal from distance and that’s all she wrote.
90+3 min: Lukaku and Eto’o take it in turns to get caught offside.
90+1 min: Three added minutes to be played.
Updated
90 min: Baines dinks a cross to the back post where Lukaku forces Dykan into a decent save.
88 min: Both sides look reasonably satisfied with the scoreline now, I’d say.
Updated
85 min: One-way traffic now. Krasnodar look a little shell-shocked and if anyone is going to nick a winner it’s likely to be the visitors.
83 min: It’s probably a little harsh on the home team, but Everton won’t mind.
GOAL! Krasnodar 1-1 Everton (Eto'o 82)
Out of nowhere Everton have an equaliser! Baines sends an inswinger into the box from the right corner of the box and Eto’o finds space between the two central defenders, getting the deftest of touches on the ball to guide it home from close range.
80 min: Everton are in the ascendancy but haven’t created anything worthy of being called a chance.
79 min: Martinez is incensed as the referee fails to award a free-kick as Lukaku and Sigurdsson tussle on the edge of the box. He can’t be happy with the way his team have played this evening.
78 min: … nodded clear. And again when helped back in by Gibson.
77 min: Lukaku forces his way into the box, then wins a corner …
75 min: Jedrzejczyk goes down, but it takes me so long to type his name that he’s back on his feet before I’ve got to the second z.
74 min: … it’s swung in by Baines and met with a towering header from, I think, Sigurdsson.
73 min: An inswinging Gibson corner is flicked on at the near post and zips dangerously across goal. No one can get on the end of it, though Osman has won a cheap free-kick on the far touchline …
70 min: Another Krasnodar substitution: Laborde, who has been excellent, is replaced by Mamaev, who I quite hope (but rather doubt) has a terrace song to the tune of this:
68 min: Laborde almost weaves his way through the rocking Everton defence, who in fairness are being given no protection whatsoever by the midfield.
66 min: Wanderson hits the bar! A Ricky Villa-esque run through the Everton defence ends with the Brazilian poking his effort onto the bar from 10 yards. It would’ve been no less than the home side deserve.
65 min: Izmailov goes off to be replaced by Wanderson, who I quite hope (but rather doubt) has a terrace song to the tune of this:
64 min: Gibson launches an effort from distance over the bar.
63 min: Hibbert does superbly to deny Peyreyra with the Krasnodar midfielder milliseconds away from playing a killer pass through to Laborde.
62 min: … which ends up with Sigurdsson’s gentle header plopping into the hands of Howard.
61 min: Quite how Krasnodar aren’t two up here is a mystery. Everton are bordering on shambolic. Jagielka gives the ball away, but at least gets back to make an important block on Ahmedov. Then Eto’o is also sloppy with the ball and Krasnodar have a corner …
60 min: Baines whips in a corner, but Ari rises highest. On the break, Laborde’s pass is too heavy and Gibson is back to mop up.
58 min: … the corner is a) too close to Howard and b) redundant as there’s a foul in the middle anyway.
57 min: Kaleshin can’t pick out a green shirt with his low cross, but he’s won a corner. Before which Gibson and Eto’o Have Words.
54 min: We see no-look passes all the time, but a no-look finish?
Eyes in the back of his head? No help for Tim Howard trying to guage where the striker is looking (via @benwhite) https://t.co/NOsHB9Mjgi

53 min: Pereyra and Ari nearly combine on the edge of the Everton box but the ball bobbles away from them. The pattern at the moment seems much the same as the first half.
51 min: Lukaku, who has taken Atsu’s wide left berth, can’t get on the end of Osman’s rather hopeful pass.

Updated
49 min: Here’s Adam Hirst again, with a display of passing that Everton have not been able to equal as of yet …
48 min: Jedrzejczyk tries to get his foot on the ball as it drops into the box.
47 min: Ari makes it a hat-trick of corners in the opening two minutes of the second half.
46 min: Krasnodar are immediately on the front foot, forcing a couple of corners.
Peep! Off we go again.
Everton are making a half-time change. Romelu Lukaku replaces Christian Atsu.
Or you could opt to catch up with all the latest Europa League scores. Or you could do both. Or neither. Or get yourself a sandwich. Or a beer. Entirely up to you.
Why not fill your half-time interval with music?
PEEP! And that’s that for the first 45. Everton have been disjointed and really quite flaky at the back. Work to be done.
45 min: Just one minute of added time to play.
GOAL! Krasnodar 1-0 Everton (Ari 43)
The home side take a deserved lead! Dreadful defending from Everton as Ahmedov clips a ball into the box from the right. Jagielka looks to flick the ball away with his right foot but only succeeds in flicking it past Stones and into the path of Ari, who tucks it away with little fuss.
Updated
41 min: It’s all a bit congested in midfield. As in M25 in the rush hour congested.
39 min: Hibbert is a little unfortunate to concede a free-kick after getting to the ball ahead of Laborde. Krasnodar can do nothing with the set-piece anyhow, so no damage done.
37 min: Laborde whips in a cross, Jedrzejczyk flicks on, Howard gathers.
36 min: Atsu again gets loose but his movement and pace isn’t being matched by his use of the ball. Again his pass inside is a bit loose – Osman can’t get near it and Eto’o’s attempt to tidy up is blocked by a defender.
34 min: The combination of Ari and Barry on the pitch is an enjoyable one. Just a shame Paul Parry isn’t there too. And Ezequiel Garay (possibly).
Updated
33 min: Atsu is woeful with a pull-back from out on the left, putting Krasnodar away on the break. Laborde can’t make the most of it.
31 min: Atsu has his pocket pinched on the edge of his own box, allowing Ari to shimmy inside and send another shot at Howard’s goal. It’s deflected as source and goes out for a corner. Which is cleared.
29 min: I fear for the cameraman/camerawoman. Not only has he/she got an aspect ratio from the 1930s, but he/she has now started to wobble uncontrollably. Thankfully the episode passes.
28 min: … Gibson goes deep, McGeady lofts back in, and Stones has a free header. He should probably do better than guide it a couple of feet over the top corner.
27 min: Atsu, playing on the Everton left, wins a free-kick after Kaleshin pointlessly provides him with a leg to stumble over. This is a useful position …
26 min: Another decent stop from Dykan, this time as Barry takes aim from the edge of the box.
25 min: A Mexican wave ripples around the ground. Most people don’t like them. I love ‘em. Great stuff.
23 min: Another shot, another save … but it’s Dykan who is in action this time. McGeady worked space on the edge of the box and sent a shot in the direction of the bottom corner, but the keeper got down well to tip wide.
22 min: Osman nods a deep Everton corner back into the danger area, but it is met by a swinging Krasnodar boot.
Updated
21 min: Laborde is giving Hibbert a torrid time on the Everton right. Or at least he would be if Hibbert could get close enough to be on the receiving end of a torrid time. He’s a spectator at the moment.
20 min: Another shot, another Howard save. Jedrzejczyk’s near-post effort is tipped wide (though it might have been heading wide anyway).
19 min: Ahmedov’s turn to fire at Howard’s goal – it bobbles well wide.
18 min: Ari gets in behind Jagielka but can’t quite keep control of the ball under pressure from the Everton defender.
17 min: Fine save from Howard! Izmailov let fly from 25 yards and though he didn’t catch it quite cleanly, he gets hold of it enough to test the keeper. Quite what Barry and Gibson are doing at the moment is anyone’s guess. They’re AWOL in front of the Everton back four.
15 min: Everton have begun to string a few passes together, but it’s all a little scrappy and frazzled.
13 min: Everton break forward for pretty much the first time, with Baines finding McGeady Speedy Gonzalezing down the left. His cross is poor, though.
12 min: … which Laborde wastes by planting straight at the Everton right-back.
11 min: Barry gives away possession cheaply and Krasnodar can build once more. Kaleshin smites his cross against Hibbert. Corner …
10 min: Laborde drills yet another cross into the box. This time it evades Ari only by a whisker.
9 min: Like slow-roasted pork, Everton are getting pulled apart here. Jagielka has to throw his body in the way to make the block as Krasnodar again fashion a shooting opportunity.
8 min: Howard boots the ball out of play with John Stones needing some treatment. He’s quickly back to his feet, though.
7 min: All Krasnodar here in the opening exchanges. The impressive Laborde again finds space for a cross, but again he can’t find a team-mate with it.
6 min: Ari and Laborde again combine neatly down the Krasnodar right, with the latter firing a fizzing cross along the six-yard box. Rather too much fizz on that occasion, though.
5 min: “Back of the net,” says Adam Hirst. And who can argue?
3 min: Ari finds Laborde in behind the Everton backline and from his pull-back Izmailov should probably do better than clip his shot over Tim Howard’s crossbar.
1 min: The cameraman in Krasnodar is struggling with his zoom facility at the moment. And we seem to be in 5:4 ratio.
Peep! Off we go then.
Click-clack, click-clack … the teams emerge from the tunnel. Cue Europa League anthem.
“While I agree with you about winning a cup for a cups sake, the problem with this competition is that Uefa have ruined the thing by allowing the Champions league losers to drop in,” writes Sam Fox. “You slog away for a year to qualify, then possibly go through a round or two of qualifiers, and six group games, only for the goal-posts to be shifted eight teams further down the line. As a Spurs fan, I’ve seen this happen year after year, and I just can’t get excited about the prospects of winning the thing until March or April.”
I agree with you here, Sam. And I just can’t see who benefits from it – most of the teams dropping out of the Champions League aren’t that bothered, it devalues the competition as a whole and it’s unfair on those who, as you say, might have begun their Europa League campaign in July. Presumably it’s a prestige thing – ie, the Champions League clubs dropping into it are an easier sell for TV companies. But it’s idiotic. The Champions League works brilliant, but Uefa have really made a mess of the secondary competition(s).
An email: “Not only is there European silverware at stake, this is the first season where winning the Europa League qualifies you for the Champions League,” writes Mischa Watson, “so arguably it should be Everton’s priority ahead of very tough fight for fourth place.”
That’s a very fair point. I do, though, dislike the Uefa Cup becoming a Champions League qualifying competition. Call me old-fashioned but I want to see clubs winning cups for the sake of winning cups, not for further gain somewhere down the line.
This is the third and final leg of a personal trio of Russia-based 5pm kick-off MBM reports. They haven’t been great so far: CSKA v Bayern wasn’t too bad, but Zenit v Monaco on Wednesday was abysmal. I’d be feeling a little trepidatious were it not for the pre-match entertainment on ITV4 keeping the spirits up …

Preamble
It has probably been a pretty enjoyable week for Everton fans, most of whom are probable still seeing Phil Jagielka’s last-minute thunderbolt at Anfield on a permanent loop every time they close their eyes. It’s back to business this evening, though, the business in question being a tricky Europa League tie in southern Russia.
The Europa League has to be high on Roberto Martinez’s list of priorities this season. The battle for the top four looks perhaps more competitive than ever and, while they certainly shouldn’t give up on the league campaign, why not give the chance of some European silverware the importance it deserves. Everton showed against Wolfsburg that if they take it seriously they’ve got no need to fear anyone in this competition. And Martinez has named a squad that suggests he’s got his eyes on this particular prize.
Krasnodar? Who are they? Founded in 2008 – yes, 2008 – they were fifth placed side in the Russian Premier League last season. They beat Estonia’s Sillamäe Kalev 9-0 in the Europa League second qualifying round back in July, then Hungary’s Diosgyor 8-1 in the third qualifying round. “Meh” might be a fair response to those scorelines, but their play-off round victory over Real Sociedad served notice of some talent and they followed that up with a 1-1 in Lille in their opening group game. As such, they’re comfortably the highest scoring team in the competition so far.
Wigan fans might recognise a certain Andreas Granqvist in their ranks, while Marat Izmailov has been a solid performer around Europe for much of the last decade or so. And like many of Russia’s top sides they’re bolstered by a smattering of Brazilian flair, in this case the attacking duo of Ari and Wanderson.
TripAdviser tells me that Krasnodar is also home to one of the only surviving hyperboloid towers designed by Vladimir Shukhov, so that’s something for the travelling fans to take a look at pre- or post-match.
For the full skinny on the Russian side, though, you’ll want to take a look at Nick Ames’ excellent piece here.
Kick-off: 5pm BST
