Javier Hernández has ended his five-year stay at Manchester United and joined Bayer Leverkusen for £8m.

Hernández, an unused substitute in Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to Swansea, spent last season on loan at Real Madrid and has failed to force his way into the plans of Louis van Gaal, who has turned his attentions to Monaco’s Anthony Martial.

After receiving £22m from Tottenham for Son Heung-min, Leverkusen have decided to move for Hernández on a permanent basis with the €11m fee being reported by the German sports magazine Kicker.
