With the start of the new Premier league season less than 24 hours away, there have so far been 110 signings in this transfer window – enough to field 10 teams.

Liverpool have been involved in the two transfers with fees in excess of £30m. Raheem Sterling left Anfield for £49m to join Manchester City in what has so far been the biggest deal this summer. Shortly after Brendan Rodgers’ side met Aston Villa’s £32.5m minimum release clause to sign Belgian striker Christian Benteke.

Another Liverpool summer signing, the former Burnley striker Danny Ings, is the only transfer being taken to a tribunal, which only happens when players under 24 are signed after reaching the end of their contract and the clubs cannot agree a fee.

Fourteen 23-year-olds have been signed this window, making it the most common age for incoming Premier League transfers. The 17-year-old George Dobson, who moved from Arsenal to West Ham, is the youngest Premier League transfer of this window so far.

The oldest signing is 39-year old goalkeeper Shay Given who switched from Aston Villa to Stoke.

There has been a lot of dealings with French Ligue 1 clubs this summer with players moving over including Jordan Amavi (Aston Villa), Yohan Cabaye (Crystal Palace), Max Gradel (Bournemouth) and Dimitri Payet (West Ham). So many that in the country-of-the-club-the-player-last-came-from rankings France comes second with 12 after England itself.

France is the second nationality of the Premier League. In a BBC study of the Premier League over the 2013-14 season, it found that players from the country took up around 8% of minutes played on the pitch, which was the highest slice of any country besides England. It looks like it will still be up there this season, with 12 Gallic summer transfers so far.

The role of new players is pretty evenly spread across the pitch, with 33 defenders, 30 midfielders and 32 forwards. It is perhaps surprising that the number of goalkeeper transfers is so high at 15 given there are of course fewer needed on the pitch than any other position.
