There is “reeling”, and then there is whatever the Eagles are doing heading into Monday Night Football against the Cowboys. Philadelphia have lost four games in a row to fall within a whisker of last place in the NFC East. Jalen Hurts’s blood clots rapidly escalated and have probably knocked the franchise QB out for the season. Backup Tanner McKee has inherited a legitimate crisis. And it’s not as if all was hunky-dory before Hurts went out. The Eagles had already blown a 10-point fourth-quarter lead to the Rams and let the Jaguars come back on them in shocking fashion in London before the Hurts news.
The Cowboys have their own enormous issues. Former Eagles assistant Christian Parker joined up as defensive coordinator, aiming to fix a bad unit, but the Cowboys are still struggling to keep teams from racking up big point and yardage totals. Facing the Cowboys defense has been a salve for struggling offenses, as when a Packers team who couldn’t convert a third down for their life suddenly converted nine of their first 10 against Big D last weekend.
Despite these issues, both teams are within reach of the first-place Giants in the East. This is a critical game even though it is mainly compelling for the anxieties on both sides of the rivalry.

What to watch for
For Philly, McKee’s comfort level will be the most important thing. In his first 2026 outing, last week’s 25-14 loss to the Panthers, McKee threw 45 passes and prioritized getting the ball out quickly to leave less time for bad things to happen. McKee averaged 3.1 completed air yards per attempt, which ranks 40th in the NFL so far this season, according to Pro Football Reference. (The idea there: McKee did not successfully complete many passes more than a few yards beyond the line of scrimmage.) Most troublingly, the Eagles got just 2.9 yards after the catch per completion, a comically low rate that would have McKee last among regular starters.
The Cowboys will be on high alert for blitzes from Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, who has surely observed Dak Prescott’s trouble against the blitz over his past two games. Fangio is one of the least-blitzy defensive coordinators in the league this season, but teams have drastically escalated their blitzing against Prescott, who has poor numbers against it (no touchdowns and a passer rating of 67 when blitzed in his last two games). Could it be that the much greener McKee is not the only QB to have an ugly time in this one?
